Superman trailer

Even though some of James Gunn’s earlier works seem to have been considered quasi-canon, the first Superman trailer and the official premiere of live-action DCU content are only a day away.

Gunn connects to a YouTube countdown video where the trailer will be released in a new video where he expresses his excitement for the movie. At 8:53 AM ET on Thursday, December 19, the countdown will come to an end. It will actually premiere at precisely 9 AM ET, and I predict that there will be some kind of extra countdown at that time.

Interestingly, another teaser trailer is being used to sell this one. The first real footage from the movie is shown in a 30-second clip that you will view when you visit that video. The movie’s tagline is “many people looking up,” and although most of us are unaware of it, we do see Lois Lane, Cat Grant, and Jimmy Olsen in the opening image. Superman is shown flying into the sky at the end of the clip, but we aren’t given a clear view of his outfit or anything else.

Despite the fact that this clip may give the impression that this is Superman’s “first” appearance, Gunn has stated that he is already a well-known hero. Though I might be mistaken, I hypothesize that these individuals are most likely focusing on the enormous threat visible through the window of the original Superman poster rather than Superman himself.

We have also received a complete synopsis of the movie in the days leading up to the publication of this trailer:

“In the newly envisioned DC universe, James Gunn portrays the original superhero with a unique fusion of epic action, humor, and heart, creating a SUPERMAN who is motivated by compassion and an innate faith in the goodness of humanity.”

Gunn has already discussed the movie in a few interviews, stating that it won’t be as obviously humorous as his previous DC and Marvel films, such as Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. He told The Wrap the following:

There’s a lot of comedy in it. There is humor in it because characters like Rachel (Brosnahan) and David (Corenswet) are hilarious, but it also aims to create a grounded and incredibly fantastical world that draws inspiration from other works, such as “Game of Thrones,” where superheroes literally exist.

Given that Rachel Brosnahan spent five seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel being hilarious, it’s easy to see how a lot of the comedy would likely come from Lois Lane. She seemed like the most ideal choice when she was cast, out of all the characters in the DCU to date.

So, I’ll see you tomorrow at precisely 10 AM ET. Lift your gaze (to your screen).
