Chicago Multiple passengers and crew members were injured when a United Airlines (UA) Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had a serious mid-flight problem that necessitated an unplanned landing in Lagos, Nigeria.

When the event happened, the UA613 aircraft had three pilots, eight flight attendants, and 245 passengers on board.

The emergency was described in detail by Nigeria’s Federal Airports Authority. On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the aircraft took off from Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 23:59 and returned for an emergency landing at 03:22 the next morning because of a reported loss of pressure.

The personnel from Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Medical, and Aviation Security were positioned at gate D31 in a strategic manner upon landing. At 03:37, the aircraft’s doors opened and it deboarded without any further incidents.

There were serious medical repercussions from the emergency. Twenty-seven passengers and five crew members had minor injuries, and two passengers and two crew members suffered serious injuries.

When the pilot first reported trouble at 01:20, the rescue crew showed remarkable readiness by arriving four minutes later.

The incident was formally acknowledged by United Airlines, which attributed the situation to an unidentified “technical issue.” The airline said that in order to fix the technical issue, the flight went back to Lagos, where first responders handled the reported injuries to the passengers and crew.
