Tuskegee University homecoming shooting

Numerous bullets were allegedly fired after midnight, resulting in the death of one person on the Tuskegee University campus.

The victim had nothing to do with Tuskegee, according to Tuskegee spokesman Thonnia Lee.

Numerous additional individuals, including Tuskegee students, were hurt and are being treated at Baptist South Hospital and East Alabama Medical Center.

Hal Bentley, the coroner for Macon County, stated that “quite a few people” were hurt, but he was unsure about the precise number. Bentley stated that he was unable to offer details about the deceased at this time.

According to Tuskegee City Police Chief Mardis, a female student was shot in the stomach. “I assisted her in being loaded.” Mardis stated that he had no knowledge regarding the third person hurt after a male student was shot in the arm.

Videos on social media show people crouching on the ground and behind automobiles near West Commons while rounds are fired quickly.

Around 9:30 p.m., city police learned of the shooting at the West Commons on-campus housing while responding to an unrelated double shooting at a Texaco station that left two persons with minor injuries, according to Mardis.

Mardis remarked, “Some idiots started shooting.” “There were so many people there that you couldn’t get the emergency vehicles in.”

On Saturday, Tuskegee commemorated its 100th homecoming. “Our hearts are with the Tuskegee family as they face the tragic aftermath,” stated Miles College in a statement released on Sunday morning.

The scene has been secured by emergency personnel and local and college law enforcement. An ongoing investigation is being carried out by the Alabama Bureau of Investigations.

According to Lee, the university is currently finishing up student accountability and informing parents.

According to Mardis, no one is in custody and the circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately known.

The probe is being assisted by the State Bureau of probe.
