Trump’s choice of Gaetz

On Wednesday, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) referred to former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), President-elect Trump’s choice for attorney general, as “nothing but trolling.”

It’s nothing more than trolling. In a Fox News clip, Fetterman responded to reporters’ questions about Trump’s choice by saying, “And, you know, even the Republicans know who he is.”

After Gaetz resigned from Congress on Wednesday night, Fetterman encouraged reporters to ask his Republican colleagues how they felt about Trump tapping him.

Fetterman stated, “We all know, you know, what the Democratic side is going to be.” “That’s where the intriguing responses will come from, my fellow Republicans who will vote for that mess or defend their vote.”

Gaetz was one of several nominees Trump named on Wednesday for the nation’s top law enforcement position. Many Republicans in the Senate were caught off guard by the news, and some voiced doubt that his candidacy would pass the upper house.

The Department of Justice’s years-long investigation into claims that Gaetz had sex with an underage girl will be one of the top worries for certain members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and for senators in general. Gaetz was not charged with any crimes, and the probe was completed last year. Any wrongdoing has been disputed by him.

Prior to Gaetz’s retirement from Congress, the House Ethics Committee was looking into a number of complaints, including whether the Florida Republican had participated in sexual misconduct and illegal drug usage. The panel may still vote to publish the findings even though it no longer has jurisdiction after Gaetz resigned.
