In her initial response, Kristin Chenoweth praises the film “Wicked” and plays evasive about a possible cameo.
Kristin Chenoweth is lauding her big-screen successors more than two decades after creating the onstage character of Glinda in Wicked.
The Tony winner posted a glowing review of director Jon M. Chu’s feature adaptation of the Broadway musical after stating that she “cannot confirm or deny” a cameo in the eagerly anticipated film, which opens in theaters on November 22.
Chenowth told Us Weekly that she and her original co-star Idina Menzel are “both really happy for the girls [Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo].” We are eager to watch them play these roles.
Chenoweth gave the movie musical her blessing in a video from her trip home after seeing it with the cast. She said in the caption of the video, “Y’ALL WON’T EVEN BELIEVE HOW GOOD IT IS.” “I will always be different!”
“Oh my gosh, I just saw the movie and I’m dying,” Chenoweth exclaimed in the video. I’m dead, I’m not here, I’m deceased. After watching this movie, people won’t feel well. It is really wonderful and unique.
“Cynthia and Ariana are amazing, and the narrative is fantastic. The entire cast is outstanding. Jon Chu was spot on. I was overcome with emotion, excitement, and happiness. “Go see Wicked, everyone; you’ll be blessed,” she continued.
In the 2003 Broadway musical, which was based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel and L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz books, Chenoweth and Menzel played Glinda, the Good Witch, and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. Menzel won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical, for which her co-star was nominated.
The movie centers on Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda (Grande), who meet at Shiz University and have a transformative experience with Jeff Goldblum’s character, the Wizard of Oz.
In 2021, Chu was chosen to helm the Universal adaptation. The first installment of Wicked will debut on November 22, 2024, while the second will follow on November 21, 2025.
