Biden’s COVID test result is positive. It occurs during a strange moment in his campaign.
With his campaign activities now on hold because to a Covid-19 infection, President Joe Biden is facing additional scrutiny on his candidacy in the November election.
It is alleged that he met one-on-one with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to discuss their worries with his presidential run.
According to CNN, Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, has also privately informed him that he will not be able to defeat Donald Trump in November.
Growing dissatisfaction among prominent Democrats following Mr. Biden’s appalling debate performance against Donald Trump last month was already battering his bid for reelection.
When Mr. Biden’s press secretary revealed his Covid infection on Wednesday, the 81-year-old reported very minor symptoms.
According to Karine Jean-Pierre, he would sequester himself in his Delaware home while performing “all of his duties fully”. She also mentioned that the president had a booster shot. He had previously tested positive for Covid twice.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Biden was spotted attending an event and visiting supporters in Las Vegas. He was had to postpone a lecture to the Latino civil rights group UnidosUS till later in the day.
It was an abrupt and crippling end to a trip that was meant to see Mr. Biden return to the campaign trail in full force following the break caused by the Donald Trump’s attempted assassination.
The president tried to win back Hispanic voters, among whom he has lost ground in the polls since 2020, during his stay in Las Vegas.
He was observed ascending the stairs to Air Force One cautiously and slowly later on Wednesday. There was no mask on him. “Good, I feel good,” he was recorded saying as he climbed onto the aircraft.
In recent weeks, there have been increasing calls for Mr. Biden to drop out of the election contest.
According to various accounts, Mr. Schumer and Mr. Jeffries voiced fears that Mr. Biden leading the November election ticket could undermine their hopes of controlling either chamber in Congress during their separate private discussions with him last week.
“The president told both leaders he is the nominee of the party, he plans to win, and he looks forward to working with both of them to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates stated in response to the reports.
“It was a private conversation that will remain private,” a representative for Mr. Jeffries stated. “Idle speculation,” according to Mr. Schumer’s office, but he also said that the Democratic leader “conveyed the views of his caucus directly to President Biden.”
According to CNN, Ms. Pelosi also informed the president during a recent meeting that polls indicated he would make it more difficult for the Democrats to reclaim the House in November.
When the president resisted, Ms. Pelosi requested the president’s longtime adviser for advice on important statistics, CNN reported, citing four people briefed on the conversation.
When the conversation occurred is unclear. According to Ms. Pelosi’s staff, she hasn’t spoken with the president since Friday.
In recent weeks, some two dozen Democratic lawmakers have publicly urged Mr. Biden to resign, notably California congressman Adam Schiff, who has urged Mr. Biden to “pass the torch”.
According to Mr. Schiff, Mr. Biden “has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history,” and by letting a fellow Democrat run, he might “secure his legacy of leadership.”
Mr. Biden stated he did not think he could take over as president with the nation so “divided” in a BET interview.
Additionally, the president declared for the first time that if any of his physicians declared he had a “medical condition,” he would think about withdrawing from the campaign.
Reporters in Las Vegas reported that after the news of Mr. Biden’s sickness broke on Wednesday, they were hurried from the location of a campaign stop at a Mexican restaurant to the airport in the city.
The Mexican paintings and guitars that hung from the walls and the banners that hung from the ceiling had the restaurant blazing with color. There were posters of “Biden-Harris” on one wall.
Passing through the kitchen door, which was accompanied by a Secret Service detail, Mr. Biden entered the main dining area as ceiling fans whirred at a low speed and Latino pop music softly streamed from the speakers.
He shook hands with diners, kissed one, and had selfies made with others. It was obvious that they had been waiting for him for some time.
After giving an animated speech to a national civil rights organization the day before, the president appeared a little more rigid and sluggish.
Later in the day, President Biden’s physician Kevin O’Connor made a comment regarding his Covid infection. He stated that Mr. Biden had received his first dose of Paxlovid and had shown signs of upper respiratory symptoms, such as a runny nose and cough.
According to Dr. O’Connor, he felt well throughout his first event of the day but later tested positive.
Posting on X, Mr. Biden expressed gratitude to everyone for “the well wishes” and promised to “work to get the job done for the American people” throughout his recuperation.
He wrote, “I’m sick,” in another post on his account before continuing, “of Elon Musk and his rich buddies trying to buy this election.” And please contribute here if you agree.
