NEW YORK: A strong early-season snowstorm over the Northeast prompted traffic delays and disruptions as Thanksgiving travelers got on the road.

Parts of Upstate New York and northeastern Pennsylvania received more than a foot of snow, according to the FOX Forecast Center. There were 20 inches of snow in High Point, New Jersey, 19 inches in Cortez, Pennsylvania, and 17.1 inches in Franklin, New York.

The Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport in Boston, the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, and the neighboring Newark International Airport were among the Northeast cities where the Federal Aviation Administration recorded aircraft delays of one to two hours.

Although Saturday was predicted to see a decrease in delays, some travel delays were still anticipated due to high winds and lingering showers.

It is anticipated that the rains will lessen the threat of wildfires that have been afflicting the area and alleviate some of the record-breaking dry conditions. The area surrounding the catastrophic Jennings Creek Fire, which is smoldering along the New Jersey-New York border, has received more than 7 inches of snow, according to the FOX Forecast Center.

In the days after Thanksgiving and into early December, the coldest air of the season will surge south out of Canada behind this storm system. As tourists return home, temperatures across much of the nation will be below normal, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
