Election 2024 voters can still register

Eligible voters can register and cast ballots in 20 states.

There remains a final opportunity to register to vote in 22 states and the District of Columbia in the coming days, despite the fact that many states have passed the deadline for eligible individuals to do so.

However, in order to do so, prospective voters in certain areas will need to visit in person and bring necessary materials.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, which keeps track of registration deadlines, same-day voter registration—in which eligible voters can register to vote in person and cast their ballot in the same location once their application is approved—has grown in popularity over the past few years.

According to the NCSL, the prospective voter must present identity and proof of domicile in order for their registration to be accepted. This would typically only require a driver’s license, but the NCSL stated that other forms of documentation, such as utility bills and paystubs, are also acceptable.

According to the NCSL, a number of states will count a ballot as provisional until the voter provides valid identification or until their application is thoroughly reviewed.
