According to the Minnesota Department of Health, more than 40 Norovirus outbreaks have been recorded throughout the state so far this December, nearly twice the typical number.
Diarrhea and vomiting are symptoms of the norovirus, also referred to as the stomach flu. Additionally, it may result in chills, muscle aches, and a low-grade fever.
It is highly contagious and the most common cause of foodborne illness in Minnesota.
According to the health agency, preventing illness and outbreaks can be achieved by cleaning and disinfecting surfaces with a bleach solution, washing hands with soap before handling food, and refraining from preparing meals for others if you have had vomiting or diarrhea.
Drink lots of fluids to prevent dehydration if you contract the norovirus. With no long-term health repercussions, the majority of people recover in one to two days.
