‘Exceptional Drive’ is how his manager, Ne-Yo, remembers championship boxer Paul Bamba dies at 35 years old.
Bamba had recently won the WBA Gold title in New Jersey on December 21.
On Friday, December 27, Paul Bamba’s manager, Ne-Yo, reported that the championship boxer had passed away at the age of 35.
Together with Bamba’s family, the 45-year-old singer and manager acknowledged the boxer’s passing in a statement posted to Instagram.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives,” said the statement.
“He had an unwavering will to succeed and was a fierce but self-assured competitor. But above all, he was an amazing person who motivated and inspired many with his extraordinary willpower.
We are “heartbroken” by Bamba’s death, and his family and manager added that they “kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we collectively navigate our grief.”
No cause of death was disclosed.
Less than a week prior to his passing, on December 21, Bamba had won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title.
Just before Christmas, on December 24, he shared a long Instagram post in which he reflected on his accomplishments this year.
“I had a goal going into this year. And I did! It wasn’t simple; I had to overcome a lot of challenges, but I managed to keep on the course we established in spite of unforeseen events,” Bamba captioned the photo.
“I’m grateful to have my family, team, and all of my supporters along the way,” Bamba added, adding, “14 fights, 14 knockouts, and the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title.” Nevertheless, if you have what some could refer to as a “outlandish goal,” go for it. Show everyone that you are braver than anyone who believes otherwise.
